This spring three of our team members and their families participated in fundraising walks benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

In celebration of their efforts, Make Space Cares is honoured to make financial contributions to these worthy causes so close to our colleague’s hearts.

CHEO – the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario

In May, brothers Trevor and Eric Wilson from our Ottawa Make Space Storage location walked in support of CHEO – the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

“We were walking in support of a family friend, Easton Adams, who is 3 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukaemia in January. He is currently receiving lifesaving treatment at CHEO and will do so for the next 2 years. CHEO has been amazing with its expertise, compassionate staff, support services and facilities, we are so thankful to have CHEO. Team East had about 80 family and friends participating and raised over $13,000.”

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

And in June, Brooke Sicard walked with her family in the Sunlife Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in support of her niece Alaina’s fight to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Alaina’s mom shared this note: “In October 2021, our daughter Alaina ended up in DKA in critical care at Ridge Meadows Emergency. She was transported to BC Children’s Hospital, where she stayed for 7 more days. We almost lost her, and that is how we found out that she has Type 1 Diabetes. It has been a long, scary road, full of lots of learning, lots of numbers and needles, and not a lot of sleeping. Like everything else in her life, she has smiled through it, with her positive personality and strong determination. She amazes us every day.

The prognosis and treatment of Type 1 Diabetes has improved immensely from what it used to be. Alaina’s dream is that a cure for Type 1 Diabetes will one day be discovered. Your donation didn’t just help fund research – your donation funded her hopes (and our whole family’s hopes) that one day, with the compassion and support of generous companies like yours, Alaina’s dream will be a reality.

With All our Gratitude,
The Levasseur Family”

Make Space Cares applauds the efforts of Trevor, Eric, Brooke and their families and friends.
